Third Christmas day

Today is third Christmas day and my birthday. This nice one received last week. From England, from Marks & Sparks, illustrator not mentioned on the card. So simple, so beautiful.

For the rest a funny sheep card in a parcel with sheep presents and a hand-delivered postcard from Alexander who lives on the other side of Amsterdam.
That's life when your birthday is after Christmas ;))

First postcard from Bas

This is one of my treasures. Special special treasure that is.
It is the first postcard ever I received from my nephew Bas.
He was not two yet when he sent it to me. He is eleven now.
Green is still his favorite colour.
Look how perfect he filled in the sun.

Tiny advent calender

Christmas day so all the uh... windows, covers, things of my tiny advent calender from Germany are open. So cute. It came by post from a Dutch friend who was a couple of days away.

To open the what-are-they-called I needed a surgical precision instrument, hihi.

Gaëllle Boissonnard - Christmas Tree Fairy

Last week I discovered beautiful illustration postcards in an art shop in Amsterdam. Not the first place I would look for postcards. What the nice lady has in stock is so different from what most of the shops offer.

One more day until Christmas and I have received quiet some postcards. The dominant colour is red.
This Christmas postcard is by Gaëlle Boissonnard. Dark blue and a bit mystique.
I will send it to a Postcrosser in Slovenia.

Notebook with doodles

Meetings can be so long... and boring... and it can be so hard to stay concentrated. But! With a piece of paper and a black pen meetings can be fun. And very creative. As long as I can remember I have been drawing during meetings or when waiting. This scribbling or drawing has an official name: doodling.

Wikipedia says "A doodle is an unfocused drawing made while a person's attention is otherwise occupied. Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes."
Well, I don't know about the 'unfocused', hihi.

On Youtube I found this fantastic video of Maykel Nune, an illustrator from Brasil. His project is called 'My Moleskine daily'. Maykel inspired me to get my own Moleskine Notebook and keep doodling.
Now I am prepared for hours ticking away or long meetings.

Christmas postcards 2011

Only three days until Christmas and I am still writing Christmas cards...

This year I had no inspiration for making handmade postcards. My friends have to do with a tiny card in a tiny envelop, silly rhyme included and all this I put in a very boring envelop. Next year better, I hope.

For a special friend who is also a post-looney I converted a matchbox into a Christmas miniature, last night. The tree is felt with beads and sequin decoration.  The Suus in Mokum figure was baked in the oven! It's made from fimo modelling clay. A couple of months ago I made half a dozen of these little figures.
If only I had started making them earlier, say july... august?

ps: ginger tail belongs to Troels.

Can we send Christian a postcard?

Ha ha, you can't always get what you want... but when you ask for it, you are half way. The answer can be Yes or No. Christian in France wants to receive the largest amount of postcards of...? The largest amount of postcards before...? That is not exactly clear to me, but I find his request very sympathetic.

For Christian this postcard of the Keizersgracht, Amsterdam. With Postcrossing-stamp.

Can you send me a postcard?

Villa Pico wishes me...

Only 5 days until Christmas and so far I have received 10 postcards. That is a bit sad... Every year I look forward to handmade, computer designed or photo postcards. Those are the most personal ones and I keep them.

This one I received by e-mail from Harco & Benny. In 2003 they sold their appartement in Amsterdam and started B&B Villa Pico in Sella, Spain. Of course I miss my friends very much, but to quote a great Dutch philosopher (and ex-football player): "Every disadvantage has its advantage". Now I have a wonderful place to visit in Spain. Breakfast at the terrace of Villa Pico is always very special. It lasts about at long as the guests enjoy breakfast, which is very, very long as the company of the hosts is unique. From the terrace there is this breathtaking view of the mountain Puig Campana.

Thank you Harco & Benny for this very special card.

Postcrosser since...

In 2010 a friend (who is also a very enthusiastic snailmailer) told me about Postcrossing. Feeling very disappointed for a long time because of the lack of nice, interesting post in the mailbox I decided to join right away.

On october 8th 2010 Postcrossing sent me 5 addresses of unknown people. I was not prepared at all! So I sent the same postcard to all these 5 people. My own postcard that is, with a collage of paintings I made. After sending 5 postcards the waiting started for my postcards to arrive and to receive 5 postcards from unknown people. That was very exciting.
